I saw a huge increase! On Saturday, I had hundreds of robins come through
the neighborhood (in the Fairwood area of Renton). I looked back at notes
from last year, because I distinctly remembered a Hitchkockian day like this
in '05. It was 10/1/05 - same deal, and in the same grove of trees, I
believe. It was an absolute din! Steller's Jays, flickers and starlings
added to all of the noise/activity.

Sitting on my deck, surrounded by the woods of Belfair, and overlooking our
natural spring, I am surrounded by birds and bird song. I can see 4
Red-shafted
Flickers (one of which, a female, paid me a brief visit by sitting on the
deck
while giving me the once over), 10 juncos, at least 20 black-capped
chickadee, 5
Chestnut-backed chickadee, 3 Spotted Towhee, 15 American Robin (one bathing
in
the spring), 2 Stellar Jay, 2 Song Sparrow, and one Band-tailed pigeon
(shouldn't he be on the way south by now???). Further into the woods, I can
see
the dark shapes of many more birds flying around amongst the trees. Today
seems
to have brought about an increase in feeding activity from the previous
couple
of weeks. Anyone else noticing similar activity?

Temp: 50 degrees, foggy, 3:45pm
