Subject: [Tweeters] Ocean Shores to Tokeland

Over the weekend a group of us from Tacoma birded the coast, Wenzel Sl. and
Brady Loop. Ocean
Shores was vacant. We did see a group of L-Billed Curlews at Bill's Spit.
We discussed this group
for the next day. They were rufous ventrally with long bills, but also had
noticable loral and lateral
crown stripes. We debated over curlew or a subspecies of Whimbrel with
longer bills. Fortunately,
on returning I checked Dennis's book and re-read the Whimbrel and Curlew
sections. I wonder
if anyone else has seen this, I had not before.
Nothing really new to report, we had 18 shorebird sps., 1 A. Golden Plover
at Bottle Beach and
the Bar-Tailed Godwit at Westport. We did have nine raptors. 2 Merlins, 1
Tiaga, 1 Suckeyi, 6
Peregrines, 4 Cooper's, 2 Sharp-Shinned. Finished up with the White-Tailed
Kite at Foster Rd.
Ocean Shores for shorebirds was depressing. We had 3 sps. by 4:00 pm. and
2 were Killdeer and
Snipe.
