The following interesting birds have been reported in Spokane County during
the past 11 days.

There have been 4 new year birds, PACIFIC LOON, HARRIS'S SPARROW, SWAMP
SPARROW & NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD bringing our group year list to an impressive

On Oct 15, a PACIFIC LOON was found on Liberty Lake. It is still being
seen. Liberty Lake has little public access so you are basically scoping
between trees or houses. The east-side park was open Tuesday, but it may be
soon closed for the season.

On Oct 15 a SWAMP SPARROW was found at Turnbull NWR near the Ice Pond which
is along the paved walking path which starts at the restrooms. Later
attempts have failed. This is the 3rd record for the county.

On Oct 14 a HARRIS'S SPARROW was found at Turnbull NWR along the same pave
walking path. Later attempts failed, but did turn up the Swamp Sparrow.

I received a late report of a June 12, 2006 sighting of NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD
at Turnbull NWR at the end of the auto tour route. It's been eleven years
since the last Spokane Co Mockingbird report.

Other goodies include an early AMERICAN TREE SPARROW at Turnbull NWR Oct 14
thru Oct 17 along the paved walking path. A late STILT SANDPIPER near
Cheney Oct 14. A late OSPREY at Clear Lake Oct 13 & another at Liberty Lake
Oct 17. At least 50 WESTERN BLUEBIRDS were along several miles of road near
Philleo Lake Oct 18. 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were at Spangle Oct 18.

At Peone Wetland Oct 13 were 12 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER
& 1 GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW.
