Hello All,
This morning Merrylynn and I drove north to meet Randy Hill at Washtucna to
plan out a habitat project. Afterwards we birded Washtucna and Lyons Ferry.

NORTHERN GOSHAWK......1 female-this bird had just finished devouring an
adult Black-billed Magpie.
Wild Turkey..............................12 birds
California Quail..........................400+
Rock Wren................................2
Sharp-shinned Hawk..................1

Palouse Falls area

Northern Shrike.....................1
Rough-legged Hawk..............1

Lyons Ferry Park

AMERICAN TREE SPARROW.....1 bird
White-throated Sparrow...................1 tan stripe
Western Grebe.................................14 birds
PACIFIC LOON.............................1 bird over Franklin Co.
RED CROSSBILL...........................1 bird-This was a first for us at
this location. No doubt the rare shrub-steppe species of crossbill.
Merlin...............................................1 bird
Winter Wren.....................................1 bird

Varied Thrush....................................4 birds
Golden-crowned Kinglet....................2 birds
D.C.Cormorant..................................30 birds-this is a high
number for the mouth of the Palouse River.

N.Shoveler.........................................1 bird
Coopers Hawk...................................1 bird
Sharp-shinned Hawk...........................1 bird

Well that is it. Beautiful day after the rain washed all the field burning
smoke out of the air.
