Hi All:

My husband, Greg Falxa is on the Scripps Instiute FLIP boat
for the month of October for marine mammal research. The
other night he called and mentioned that they had a couple
unexpected stowaways: 2 small owls. I just got a photo and
they are Burrowing Owls!! The boat is anchored about 40
miles west of San Diego. The nearest island is about 10
miles away. When he had mentioned the owls during a phone
call, I had assumed that they had been using the boat as a
day roost while it was moored in San Diego. Now, knowing
they are Burrowing Owls I don't really know what to think
about why they were there (They have not been seen since
last week) or how they got there. Anyone have any
thoughts??
