I live in Snoqualmie and check Eagle Lake on the Snoqualmie TPC golf course almost every day after work. Although the lake is on golf course property, it is easily observed from the sidewalk on the public street that abuts the lake. The 'lake' (calling it this is a bit of a stretch) gets a good assortment of ducks in spring and fall and an occasional shorebird (usually just Spotted Sandpiper and Killdeer). Several weeks ago, I saw a SORA working the edge of the reeds on the north shore, which was certainly unexpected. This afternoon (Saturday) I stopped by the lake for a look, and on the north shore was a lone LONG BILLED DOWITCHER - another very pleasant surprise. More typical birds on the lake today included MALLARD, AMERICAN COOT, RING-NECKED DUCK and a first-of-the-season male BUFFLEHEAD.

Friday I photographed and birded Whidbey Island with another photographer friend and though I saw nothing unexpected, I was able to find a very cooperative BELTED KINGFISHER (http://www.tubbsphoto.com/-/tubbsphoto/detail.asp?photoID=2881196&cat=38972) and got the best image I've ever been able to obtain of one. At the same location (the marina in Langley) I also got some good close shots of a BONAPARTE'S GULL (http://www.tubbsphoto.com/-/tubbsphoto/detail.asp?photoID=2882824&cat=38979).
