Hi Tweeters,

I made a quick trip to the Westport area Thursday and Friday, hoping
to fill in some gaps in my year list.

At the Westport marina I found the Bar-tailed Godwit that has been
seen there in the flock of Marbled Godwits off Float 21. I watched
it for about two hours spread over the two days and it only raised
its head one time, for about two seconds.

At Midway Beach I talked to a woman who had just seen two hawks
fighting over a duck. I walked about half a mile south from the
entrance road and finally found a young "Peale's Peregrine Falcon
flying with its prey. A Northern Harrier was also there, so I think
that was the second hawk she saw. I was able to get some photos of
the peregrine but they were at quite a distance with a stiff wind blowing.

I walked north of the entrance road and found 22 Snowy Plovers. That
is more than the total number of Snowy Plovers I had seen
previously. I was about to get some pretty good photos as the
plovers sat on the sand.

At Bottle Beach on Friday, the Pacific Golden-Plover finally showed
up in the company of Black-bellied Plovers. There were also Marbled
Godwits, Least Sandpipers, Sanderlings, Dunlin, one Ruddy Turnstone,
Black Turnstones and Short-billed Dowitchers.

I was also able to see the White-tailed Kite on Foster Road off the
Brady Loop Road.
