The Pileated Woodpecker that showed up here about three weeks ago has been
coming to the suet pole every day since then. I've started waiting for him
camera in hand, trying to get some flight shots, but so far the light hasn't
been good enough between 8:30 and 10:00 when he usually shows up. This
morning while he was here the local crows decided to run him off but he
didn't run. He avoided them for the most part but when one crow got too
pushy he did stab at it with his beak. Eventually I beat on the window and
waved the crows off and he resumed eating. What a bird!
