Hello Tweets,

We have just updated our website with many more photos taken yesterday during our nice visit to Ocean Shores. These photos include a fairly cooperative Red-throated Loon and 2 different "Streaked"Horned Larks at the Damon Point "pond". Of the 7 "Streaked"Horned Larks we observed yesterday at the Damon Point "pond" we noticed that only one bird was banded with red and purple bands. All of the 7 birds stayed fairly close to each other hunkering on the ground as they foraged, but overall the birds were approachable before they decided to fly off and to another location near the pond. This endangered subspecies of Horned Lark is studied by the WDFW(Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife),where they band the birds for research purposes from a few locations in western WA including Damon Point and Midway Beach Rd. and perhaps a few other locations. It is always a highlight when we see these birds, especially when we encountered banded birds along with banded Snowy Plovers and Midway Beach Rd. The "Streaked"Horned Larks to us are one of the brightest subspecies of Horned Lark and really show up well along the sandy landscape or in more weedy areas.

Our photos of both the Red-throated Loon and "Streaked" Horned Larks can be accessed from the following link: http://www.pbase.com/godwit/recent_photos/
