We have a very tame adult Coopers/sharp-shinned hawk around daily (I think Coopers based on size, and have photos to confirm). It spends a lot of time on our fence and hopping around on the ground and into various shrubs, looking for songbirds (so far we've only seen it catch a couple golden-crowned sparrows, and one rodent, probably a vole). Both yesterday and today while I was working on putting in a pond in the yard, the hawk showed up and was looking for songbirds about 15' away, ignoring me (or at least tolerating me). What was interesting is that the hawk would frequently make small "songbird" like squeaking noises, then waiting and peering *intently* into the shrubs. After a short wait (~15-30 seconds) the hawk would fly 5-10' away to a different shrub and squeak again. Sure seemed like it was trying to imitate songbirds to attract them out of the bush. Have others noticed this?
