In hopes that a Leach's Storm-Petrel or other shearwater might blow my
direction, I spent a few hours in the early afternoon enjoying migration
from Fay Bainbridge Park. Like Steve Mlodinow on the Edmonds side of the
water, I watched many flocks of waterfowl heading south over the waters of
Puget Sound. Highlight for me however was a flyover flock of eight
dowitchers. Shorebirds have been tough to find on Bainbridge Island this
Fall season. This late in October one could almost assume Long-billed
Dowitchers. Alas, no luck on shearwaters or storm-petrels.

Late in the day at the south end of Bainbridge Island, I was startled by a
gnatcatcher-like mew call coming from some brushy growth adjacent to beach
grass. To my surprise the culprit of this call turned-out to be a House
Wren. I was amazed to see one at this time of year.
