Tweeters,

For the past week it's been pretty amusing at my feeder. One day it was
nothing but Black-Capped Chickadees, Oregon Juncos and our local Anna's
Hummingbird. I thought that after watching that nervous bunch flitting
about, a person didn't need coffee - they could just get twitchy through
osmosis.

Then, as the week progressed the House Sparrows showed up one by one.

A little bit ago it reminded me of a train or subway stop - all of a sudden,
in addition to the 5-8 Black -Capped Chickadees and the 6-8 Juncos that had
been in the yard all morning, 4 Stellars Jays, our 2 neighborhood Northern
Flickers, 1 House Finch, 7-10 House Sparrows and 1 Song Sparrow flew in.
About 10-15 minutes after it went back to the Black-Capped Chickadees and a
few Oregon Juncos with the occasional Sparrow for good measure. The two
remaining summer resident rats should show up around 1-2:30 pm (still
working on THAT issue). I can't wait to see what happens when the Bushtits
venture back en masse as they typically do.

Yesterday afternoon around 2:30 ish, I ventured up to hang around Daybreak
Star Indian Cultural Center to see what I could see. Fun little trip
overall. I didn't have to get any further than the East Entrance to the
building, by the Indian Guardian Spirit statue to see the following: Song
Sparrows, Black-Capped Chickadees, Bewick's Wrens, Common Yelowthroats, Ruby
Crowned Kinglets and some Juncos all in the same little stand of bushes.
While trying to watch this curious crew, overhead flew one Adult Bald Eagle,
followed a while later by a Male Harrier Hawk that I have seen cruising up
Gilman Avenue on the way to Discovery Park as of late.

When I went to the lookout platform to see what was in the water, it looked
like an entire mixed bag of fun! From what I could see from up above, there
were Double-Crested Cormorants, Gadwalls, American Widgeons, a Grebe or two,
your standard seagull contingent and a few others. Too bad it was getting a
bit late for me to go wandering down the North Stair trail alone to check it
all out and get a more accurate accounting..but maybe next time.

Happy Halloween
