Subject: [Tweeters] Birding central California coast

Bob/Tweets: Since retiring, my wife and I have prowled and birded rural
California and the entire coast five or six times during recent
winters--there are a lot of good places to visit. I suggest that you
consider getting a copy of Don Roberson's "Monterey Birds" (2nd Edition,
2002, Monterey Aud. Soc.; ABA sales), which covers one of the best coastal
areas (Monterey County) thoroughly, with excellent up-to-date species info.
and birding routes, including include Elkhorn Slough, Carmel River, Pt.
Lobos and Andrew Molera State Parks, and the Big Sur coast. Of all the
places we've visited, other that Bodega Bay, you might not do better than
spending all or at least most of your time in the general vicinity of
Monterey and the Big Sur, guided by this book. Also check out Roberson's
website at http://montereybay.com/creagrus/index.html, which covers birds
and much more.
