Hello Birders,

We have placed a few fairly poor quality photos of the juvenile Snowy Egret taken on the 2nd of September at Rest Lake of the River S Unit of the Ridgefield NWR in Clark Co.(Washington State). The bird was most distant in all our photos,so along with that and the lighting during our visit made for challenging photos. All the photos show different details due to the angles including yellow lores, yellowish legs, and fairly thin, straight dark-tipped bill with darker lower mandible. One flight photo sows the darkish feet extending behind the bird, but they appear dark only because they are partially covered by mud.In one action photo you can have the impression of the bird prancing around in search of it's prey, which is typical behavior for a Snowy Egret. Most times the bird was very active running around in search of it's prey, but other times it would rest and preen in one single spot. We ran into several photographers/birders from Oregon in search of the bird on the 2nd who all claimed the bird was just too far for photos even with their 400-600mm lenses! We felt fortunate to get the photos we did, which are mostly for documentation,if nothing else!

These photos can all be accessed from the following link for your viewing: http://www.pbase.com/godwit/recent_photos/
