Tweets - another day of overly nice weather today. It was really beautiful.
I am *so* ready for rain. Luckily it was also somewhat birdy too. We're
beginning to see some changes of species, as fall is arriving.

Highlights:

Gadwall First since mid-June
Cooper's Hawk Stupid juvie taking on crows still
American Coot Flock of about 15 - coming back
R.-breasted Sapsucker Many sightings
Western Wood-Pewee Only 1 seen briefly. No other flycatchers
O.-crowned Warbler Only warbler except yellowthroat - maybe 3
Western Tanager Probably 2-3 seen/heard
Black-headed Grosbeak A couple still around - juvies presumably
Lincoln's Sparrow 2 today
Wh.-crowned Sparrow More and more showing up, 1st adult
Purple Finch Many (20?) in Ash trees in south Dog Meadow
PINE SISKIN Six in south Dog Meadow
EVENING GROSBEAK Flock of 13-15 over Dog Meadow

We got to watch a rather amazing job of harrassment early in the morning.
In a tree on the far side of the slough was a RED-TAILED HAWK and a NORTHERN
FLICKER. They were being dive-bombed by an Anna's (presumably) Hummingbird,
which after several dives, seemed to have driven both birds off. Chutzpah.

The poor PIED-BILLED GREBE is still on the nest (4 eggs, all quite orange).
She/he/they've been on that nest for the last 7 Wednesdays. The eggs really
should have hatched by now, if they were going to...

I got a brief glimpse of a LONG-TAILED WEASEL just south of the Dog Area.
