Saturday morning I saw 38 species in one location, in
mixed/transitional/riparian woodland 1.4 mi up Vantine Rd, east and north of
Tenino (the '05 chat spot). This is my personal highest "location count" for
Sept. I initially stopped upon hearing a woodpecker tapping, and over the
next hour the birds kept popping up. The most interesting (to me): Hammond's
Flytcr (2 or more, singing (thank you!), plus another (silent) at a
different location; pewee (2, occasional calls); 5 wdpkr spp; season first
Golden-cr Sparrow. 63 species for the day, including 7 warblers and a Pac-sl
Flyctr (silent). "Missing" today: hummers, Blk-h Grosbeak, Chipping Sparrow,
MacG's Warbler, Willow Flyctr, bluebirds.
