Dear Tweeters,

Sorry for late posting, but I am now reporting a
Franklin's Gull at Jensen Access (Fir Island) that I
saw on Saturday afternoon. It foraged on a mudflat,
and was gone after five minutes, as soon as incoming
tidewater inundated the mud.

Also on Saturday were 26 Common Terns off Samish
Island. This was an atypical flocks, in that it lacked
a Parasitic Jaeger.

At the Skagit River in Lyman, a single Trumpeter Swan
has been haunting the shoreline. This bird is quite
early. Last year at about the same time, a small band
of Tundra Swans arrived at this same spot.

On Sunday there was a good raptor movement at Sibley
Pass, located off the Hidden Lakes Trail, and reached
by the Cascade River Road near Marblemount (Skagit
County). Raptors included one immature Golden Eagle,
one Northern Harrier, one Red-tailed Hawk, and
thirteen or more Sharp-shinned Hawks. There were also
two small flocks of Grey-crowned Rosy Finches,
totalling 16 birds, and ten or more American Pipits. A
single Pine Siskin flew over, as did a few Red
Crossbills. Good numbers of White-crowned,
Golden-crowned, Song, and Lincoln's Sparrows were in
the meadows below the pass. On the way down, I flushed
a Blue Grouse from a dense patch of Fireweed. It was
only a quick look, and I could not assign the bird to
one of the recently recognized split species.
