HI!
The day started early, about 7 AM my husband Mark and I were out in the front, still scratching our heads over a waterfall pond project, and how to do it. The HAIRY had been calling when we went out, and we watched her leave since we were getting too close for comfort.
As we talked, 4 SAPSUCKERS landed in the trees next to us, and one proceeded to the suet log, with the others pecking away at the trees. So we were stuck for a few minutes, and they were not disturbed by our talking quietly.
Since then, the DOWNY has appeared, the FLICKERS have been hard at work on the niger feeder full of fine sunflower chips, and suet feeder (yes they stick their tongue into the tiny holes, but prefer the regular feeders)......Just now the PILEATED came and hammered on the nest box near the suet log, and proceeded to make a ruckus, while hanging onto the tree closest to the log.
While outside, (later) getting ready to plant more stuff, I noticed the crows harassing a young RED-TAIL sitting in the tree above my neighbors pond.
The BUSHTITS already came through, and I saw and heard a RAVEN overhead, something I only get in the fall and spring these days. I have had a couple of summers where they were here during nesting, but that was years ago!
the GRAY SQUIRRELS seem to have quickly come out of hiding, since the Eagles are no longer around, and they are getting to be too many. I wonder if someone has been dropping them off!
The DOUGLAS squirrel is still around, but only the female, the male seems to have wandered off to parts unknown.
I hate leaving for store, when the morning has been popping like this! Oh yeah, CEDAR WAXWINGS have been around, and the FINCH FAMILY, Gold, Siskin, Purple and House, are keeping me busy eating tons of stuff. I have more Gold Finches now than the other Finches.
We now have TWO Pacific Madrona(?) trees that started, one is about three years old, and is in the front, and almost 6 foot tall; the other is 2 years old, and about 3 feet tall......Although my neighbors want them pulled, they are staying, and I am very excited about them!!!
Good Birding, and a big AMEN to that!!!
