Subject: [Tweeters] first bird book

My first bird book was Petersons birds of the west. A neighbor who was a
naturalist mentor elder gave me this book on my tenth birthday. I carried it
with me everywhere. It was mostly black and white with a handful of color
plates. In 1982 I lost that book at sea, it washed overboard with my daypack
on a pelagic trip. In 2000, while poking around on the beach south of Sand
Point, Olympic National Park, I found a cover and tattered remains of a
Peterson book, and to this day I wonder if it was the one I lost....
