Hi Tweets -
[Filling in on the reporting for Michael Hobbs , though he was in
attendance today]

It felt like Fall today at Marymoor. Little light made it through the
cloud cover, and for a while we were even birding in a drizzle
[gasp]. For much of the day, the birding was slow, but a couple hot
spots livened things up a bit. Sixteen people joined part or all of
the walk today.

A few highlights from today:

Western Grebe - 2 out in the lake. First for the season, I believe
Green Heron - MaryFrances had one on the lake edge.
Bald Eagle - 1 adult over the lake - very unusual for Marymoor this
time of year.
falcon sp - Much debate over this fly-by, with some convinced it was
an American Kestrel, and others thinking Merlin.
Barn Owl - 1 before dawn, over the east meadow.
Wester Wood-Pewee - only 1 seen briefly by Michael
Orange-crowned Warblers - several
Wilson's Warbler - 1, over at the Rowing Club.
Savannah Sparrow - especially around the Pea Patch Garden, large
numbers of SAVS were showing off the complete range of Savannah
coloration possibilities, from pale brown to glowing golden-yellow.
Golden-crowned Sparrow - first of the season
Purple Finch - small group in Ash trees

The Pied-billed Grebes are still tending the nest near the lake
viewing platform. That's 8 weeks now they've been sitting on those
eggs....

The highlight for the week came back on Saturday, when Ollie & Grace
Oliver had a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT between the off-leash dog area
parking lot and the weir. That's a new park bird for Marymoor!
While at the park Saturday ,they also had 3 AMERICAN PIPITS, birds we
were hoping for today.

For the day, about 54 species.
