Hello All,
This bright beautiful morning MerryLynn and I departed the Walla Walla
Valley and headed west to the Columbia River to see what migration had
brought into this neck of the basin. We birded the Iowa Beef/Tyson slop
ponds and Hood Park. Birds of note were............

Tyson Slop Ponds ( along the old rail bed )

Red-necked Phalarope..........15 birds
Long-billed Dowitchers..........41 birds
Western Sandpipers..............19 birds
Least Sandpipers...................10 birds
Savannah Sparrow.................52 birds
Vesper Sparrow.....................15 birds
Bank Swallow.........................5 birds
Violet-green Swallow..............3 birds
Barn Swallow..........................30 birds
Yellow-headed Blackbird........54 birds

Tyson Blood Ponds ( along Dodd Rd.)

Semipalmated Plover...............1 bird
Killdeer...................................66 birds
Western Sandpiper..................84 birds
Least Sandpiper.......................3 birds
Bairds Sandpiper......................13 birds
Pectoral Sandpiper.....................8 birds
Long-billed Dowitcher................1 bird
Sharp-shinned Hawk..................1 bird
Peregrine Falcon.........................1 bird, caught and killed a
Killdeer
Barn Swallow..............................20 birds

Hood Park, Walla Walla Co.

Hairy Woodpecker.....................1 female-odd location for a montain
species
Downy Woodpecker...................2 birds
Wilsons Warbler..........................3 birds
Orange-crowned Warblers..........7 birds
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT..2 males- very rare in this county
Yellow-rumped Warbler..............135 birds
Olive-sided Flycatcher.................1 bird-getting near the late date of
18 Sept.
Wood Duck................................9 birds
