I'm sitting here at my computer finishing up some work and hear this tapping
on my window hosting one of the many feeders. Perched on top of the one
attached to the window is a female HOUSE FINCH. At first I thought she was
just tapping, but then I noticed her beak was open as if she were trying to
eat things attached to the window. About two minutes of this. The window is
no cleaner so I don't think she was successful, but I have not seen this
before.



We distribute raw peanuts and hazelnuts weekend mornings to enjoy the
squirrels, STELLAR'S JAYs, and SCRUB JAYS fight over the nuts while we watch
from the hot tub. The scrubs rarely come onto the deck, but get lots of nuts
by chasing the Stellar's as they fly off. The interesting point here is that
we have had a Stellar's with a broken or weak wing for four years now. We
are pretty sure it is the same bird, because the injury looks the same and
is on the same side. This one can't take off at as steep an incline as the
healthy ones. But it quickly bounces its way to a high level in the trees.
Nice to see that the injury has not really slowed it down.
