Barb and I spent the weekend camping at Potholes State Park and birding the
local area. Several highlights were noted during the weekend and we were
fortunate enough to bump into several birders from the westside.
Highlights from Potholes State Park included the following:

BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER - 1
White-throated Sparrow - 1
Winter Wren - 1
Golden-crowned Sparrow - 1
Peregrine Falcon - 1
SANDERLING - 3
SABINE'S GULL - 1 juvenile
Varied Thrush - 1
Common Loon - 1

In addition to the listed birds, the sheer numbers were mind boggling and
made sorting through the mob somewhat difficult. The following numbers were
noted (est. = estimated).

Yellow-rumped Warbler - 300+ (est.)
Dark-eyed Junco - 250+ (est.)
Orange-crowned Warbler - 21
Townsend's Warbler - 19
White-crowned Sparrow - 150+
Lincoln's Sparrow - 11
American White Pelican - 400+ (est.)

Highlights from the Lind Coulee area as follows:

Pectoral Sandpiper - 12
Long-billed Dowitcher - 60 (finally have arrived)
SABINE'S GULL - 1 adult

We had a total of 87 species, it was a great weekend, and we enjoyed the
cooling weather and the birds. We also enjoyed meeting Patricia, Alan,
Merritt, and Mary from the westside.
