Roger & Michael Woodruff, Harold & Karen Cottet,
Matthew Moskwik, Kim Thorburn, and I birded several of
the migrant traps today (9/17/06). The weather was
mild, sunny, and quite beautiful.

We began the morning in Washtucna, and were met with
good bird activity. In Bassett Park, we picked up BARN
OWL - 1, TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE - 2, HAMMOND'S
FLYCATCHER - 3, DUSKY FLYCATCHER - 1, W. WOOD PEWEE,
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, WILSON'S WARBLER,
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, WILD
TURKEY, EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE, HOUSE WREN, LINCOLN'S
SPARROW - 12, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, RC & GC KINGLETS,
HERMIT THRUSH - 6, VARIED THRUSH - 1, COOPER'S HAWK,
SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, and SPOTTED TOWHEE.

The best birds in the park were RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER -
2, BROWN CREEPER, and a LEWIS'S WOODPECKER. The
Lewis's Woodpecker kept mixing it up with one of the
resident American Kestrels. All three of these species
are very tough to come by in Adams County and were in
fact county lifers for me.

On Wellsandt Road, we saw a PRAIRIE FALCON. A quick
stop at Cow Lake revealed a GREAT EGRET, but nothing
else unusual. On the Adams County side of Sprague
Lake, we saw a pair of BELTED KINGFISHERs, WILSON'S
SNIPE, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, COMMON TERN - 4, and an
immature SABINE'S GULL.

Sprague Lake Resort held the usual assortment of birds
on the grounds, but nothing extraordinary popped up
today. Davenport Cemetery was quite slow, but there
was a WINTER WREN and a VARIED THRUSH present.

Despite, the lack of any big eastern rarities, we had
an excellent day of birding. While I picked up 4 Adams
County lifers, Michael added 22!
