Subject: [Tweeters] Hooded Mergansers in East Bay

A week or two back I falsely identified some common mergansers that had been
hanging around east bay in Olympia as red-breasted. This mistake was
corrected by a few of you. However, the sudden and drastic change to
fall/winter plummage has unmasked them as hooded mergansers. Oops! Another
humbling/great birding moment.

I have noticed also in the last week that mallards and wood ducks have
switched plummage also.

There are some pic's of them here: http://eastbaybirders.blogspot.com/
