Hello Birders,

We have enjoyed the pleasure of placing some photos of ours of the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper taken yesterday at the Ridgefield NWR onto our website. We were really pleased to get some very good photos of the bird after it made a nice appearance at close range along the road at the southwest corner of Rest Lake. The bird was most cooperative and having great lightings and close distance allowed for some great views of this spectacular bird! 15 of the photos on our website were taken at this location within 25 feet with an additional photo of the bird taken at a distance of approximately 300 feet along the southern edge of Rest Lake earlier in the day. The bird was always bright from every angle and an exciting bird for everyone to see and watch! In addition we have placed 2 distant photos of the male Ruff, which was noticeably larger and overall paler than the female bird, which was slightly larger than several nearby Pectoral Sandpipers. Hopefully, both Ruffs and the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper will continue to remain at Rest Lake for more birders to see and perhaps more rarities will show up at the Ridgefield NWR itself!

Our photos of the Sharp-tailed Sandpiper and the male Ruff can all be accessed at the following link: http://www.pbase.com/godwit/recent_shorebirds/

Sincerely,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
