I got a call from Troy Guy this morning alerting me to an
impressive southbound movement of seabirds. He is doing
seabird counts from the North Head Lighthouse for NOAA as
part of a long term study on the relationship between ocean
conditions, fish movements and seabirds.

I went to North Head to see for myself. Troy let me use the
REALLY BIG binoculars. By the time I got there the series of
early morning squalls had gone past, the sky was clear and
the movements had fallen off a bit. But there were still
SOOTY SHEARWATERS going by at about 20 per minute. I saw
a single SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER, Troy had already seen several
short-tails as well as 2 PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS.

Troy had reported several jaegers before I got there. I saw
a POMARINE (with spoons) and at least 2 PARASITIC JAEGERS.

I also saw a single MARBLED MURRELET, several RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES and a RHINOCEROS AUKLET.
