I was at Ridgefield NWR today, showing my
non-birder-neighbor Ken ?the lay of the land?.
About 11:30am there was an Avocet on Rest Lake. I
spotted it from my car as I reached the corner on the
Easterly side where the road leaves the edge of the
lake and begins to weave through meadow. I watched it
for only a brief time, and while I was getting my
scope out of the trunk of my car to show it to Ken, it
disappeared.
Keep a look out.
I saw very few peeps:
No Ruffs.
No Sharp-tailed Sandpiper.
No Pectorals
A couple of small flying flocks of Least / Western
Sandpipers and
One flying Yellowlegs
We walked the trail at the Carty Unit, and also the
Kiwa trail. It was a good day to be outside.
