Hi Tweets

Michael Hobbs is back east so several of us stood in for him at Marymoor this morning. The day started out overcast and not too bad. After about 1/2 hour it began to mist, and this continued for about an hour and a half. It then began to lightly, but steadily rain. Finally about 12 the rain began in earnest and the day became miserable. The temperature was tolerable - in the 50s.

But, in spite of this, it was a good day for the birds. We kept running into small groups of birds most of the day. Some of the best birds were:
The Fox Sparrows are back,
Golden-crowned Sparrows are her in numbers,
There were a "ton" of Savannah Sparrows in the grassy dog meadow,
A flight of 14 Wood Ducks flew over with more along the river and out at the lake,
Two flocks of Cedar Waxwings were seen,
A Wilson's Snipe was along the river,
A relatively cooperative Green Heron was at the rowing club ponds,
The Barn Owl was around early,
At least two flocks of Bushtits were seen, one of 40+ birds and another of 25,
68 Killdeer were on the soccer fields,
an American Pipit flew over,
Three Horned Larks were on the parking lot north of the soccer fields,
and there must have been at least 12 Orange-crowned Warblers present.

While we kept feeling that it was a slow day, by the time we finished we had seen 56 species.
