It was a good morning to take Mike Denny's advice to get out there and bird.
This morning I returned to Marymoor Park to see if anything had moved
in since our Wednesday walks. Though my hopes for Lapland Longspurs
or vagrant sparrows went unfulfilled, lots of other nice birds were
present....
The morning began with a BARN OWL being chased by a PEREGRINE FALCON
over the dog area.
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD - the juvie found by the Ollivers over the
weekend was still present in the blackberrys by the east meadow. Most
of the time I watched it stayed quiet & immobile.
HORNED LARK - 2 in the dog area, none where they had been hanging out, in Lot B
AMERICAN PIPIT - at least 23, probably lots more, in the soccer
fields and dog area
WESTERN MEADOWLARK - first of the winter
MOURNING DOVE - 3 around
COMMON RAVEN - uncommon for Marymoor
OSPREY - 1 flying by with a fish - not much time left to see these this year.
NORTHERN HARRIER - 1 working the east meadow
AMERICAN KESTREL - 1 over the soccer fields and in snag row
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER - 30+ in one huge flock. I thought I was
coming up on a Bushtit flock, then took a closer look. Couldn't turn
any of them into something rare though....
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER - 10+ around
MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER - 1 along the boardwalk
WESTERN GREBE - 2 on the lake.

All in all, a great morning of wandering around.

Now, where are those Lapland Longspurs?
