Nothing rare to report today but yard birding was certainly fun this
morning with many birds flying south beyond the back deck. Totals from
about 6am until 9am follow:



Barn Owl 1 (local and reliable every day - it
flies back to roost at 6:30am now)

Swainson's Thrush 45 (nocturnal migration continues)

American Robin 26

Varied Thrush 13 (some before dawn)

Golden-crowned Kinglet 1 (first of the season)

American Pipit 21

Yellow Warbler 8

Yellow-rumped Warbler 12 (first of the season)

Red-winged Blackbird 45

Cedar Waxwing 268 (none feeding - all moving south)

Evening Grosbeak 154 (at least 8 flocks - some were too high to
see so

I only recorded 1 when I couldn't see the flock)

Pine Siskin 10

Purple Finch 26

American Goldfinch loads amassing around the self inflicted
dwindling supply of niger seed

Lincoln's Sparrow 1 (first of the season)

Dark-eyed Junco 1 (first of the season)

Various sparrow chips before daybreak - mostly zonotrichia sounding
chips



The big surprise this morning was a flyby calling LONG-BILLED CURLEW!
