Audubon members statewide (and beyond) helped raise money to protect
Reardan's Audubon Lake before it was sold for development. Eventually, WDFW
was able to acquire Audubon Lake with funding from the Washington Wildlife
and Recreation Program (WWRP) to protect it as critical habitat.

WDFW has applied for another WWRP grant to develop trails, blinds,
interpretive signs, and parking at Audubon Lake as well as a second grant to
restore the grasslands on the north side of the lake. The legislature will
appropriate funds for WWRP in the next legislative session.

In order to protect the birds and their habitat, Audubon Lake is closed to
the public until the trails and blinds are in place. However, Spokane
Audubon Society volunteers offer tours of Reardan's Audubon Lake from time
to time. If you are unable to attend the celebration but would like to
visit Reardan's Audubon Lake, contact Spokane Audubon Society at
509-838-5828 or info at spokaneaudubon.org.

If you have any questions, contact Vicki Sola of Inland Northwest Land Trust
at 509-462-1239 or vsola at inlandnwlandtrust.org.
