Hello Tweets,

Yesterday(September 23rd)while on our birding field trip we encountered several butterflies at different locations, which were most likely migrants. Considering the date and the locations a few of these species seemed quite notable especially 2 Lorquin's Admirals, including 1 specimen noted while searching for passerines in the pen riparian area immediately north of the Hoquiam STP and another specimen along Midway Beach Rd. We also encountered a few Woodland Skippers and Cabbage Whites during the day,as well as a few Orchre Ringlets and un undetermined species of Satyr(Westport only). Perhaps the warm weather made for good conditions for the butterflies and we also encountered several dragonflies during the day too. Our mammal highlight of the day was a MINK scampering along the upper edges of the main pond at the Hoquiam STP.

In addition we have placed 5 photos onto our website from portions of the Long-billed Curlews we encountered at Westport yesterday. These birds are always a highlight for us! This is the same location we encountered Long-billed Curlews last fall, but yesterday lighting conditions weren't the best with almost too much sun and the photos were taken handheld. These photos can be accessed at the following link: http://www.pbase.com/godwit/recent_shorebirds/

Sincerely,
