Sunday September 24, 2006:
The Sunday bird walk went to Neck Point Park in Nanaimo, sixteen birders
found the following thirty-four species:
PACIFIC LOONS, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS, PELAGIC CORMORANTS, BRANDT'S
CORMORANT, SURF SCOTERS, WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, COMMON MERGANGERS, HARLIQUIN
DUCKS, BALD EAGLE, TURKEY VULTURES, BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, BLACK TURNSTONES,
SPOTTED SANDPIPER, CALIFORNIA GULLS, GLAUCOUS WINGED GULLS, BELTED
KINGFISHER, NORTHERN FLICKER, PILEATED WOODPECKER, NORTHWESTERN CROW, COMMON
RAVEN, CHESTNUT BACKED CHICKADEE, AMERICAN ROBIN, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET,
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, SPOTTED TOWHEE, SONG SPARROW, BROWN CREEPER, BEWICKS
WREN, WINTER WREN, ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS, DARK-EYED JUNCOS, GREAT BLUE HERONS
and STELLER'S JAY.

Saturday September 23:
Eleven HORNED LARKS, two CEDAR WAXWINGS and several PACIFIC LOONS were seen
in the McGirr Road area of Nanaimo.

Friday September 21:
A MOURNING DOVE, PINE SISKINS and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH are visiting feeders
in the 800 block of Drew Road in French Creek
AMERICAN PIPITS were seen near the first tee at the Winchelsea Golf Course
in upper Lantzville.
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS were seen along Mill Road in Nanaimo.

Thursday September 20:
"RARE BIRD ALERT"
A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was seen and photographed near the Beaver Pond at
McGregor Marsh, just off Rutherford Road, across from Dig This in north
Nanaimo.
A female NORTHERN HARRIER was spotted flying over Somenos Marsh in Duncan.
Five STELLER'S JAYS, a NORTHERN FLICKER, a flock of CHESTNUT- BACKED
CHICKADEES and one ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD were seen in a yard in the 2900 block
of Colwood Road in Nanaimo.

Wednesday September 19:
Ten SANDHILL CRANES were seen flying over the 600 block of Cowland Road in
Bowser.

Tuesday September 18:
Several ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS were seen in the 6600 block of David Place in
Lantzville
.
Saturday September 16:
A flock OF CEDAR WAXWINGS were seen decending onto a Mountian Ash Tree at
the corner of Jingle Pot and Kilpatrick Roads in Nanaimo.
