hello, tweeters:

For those interested in the migration of Sandhill Cranes east of the
mountains, we went to a spot yesterday afternoon which has been productive
in years past. The area didn't fail us, as we found ~120 cranes in the
agricultural fields on Frenchman Hill Rd. and ~70 more on Adams Rd. (both in
the Potholes-Desert Wildlife area). We were fortunate to have been looking
at some Savannah Sparrows through the binoculars when we first spotted
flocks of the cranes in the distance. We waited a while, watched them
quickly approach, and then saw them land in the fields just ahead of us.
They continued to arrive in small flocks for several minutes, allowing for
some great looks. It was delightful to see the mix of adults and juveniles.

Also, at the Northern Pacific Ponds in S. Cle Elum, we found the three WA
Nuthatch species all in one spot! I've never seen all three in this
particular area.

And, of course, large, busy flocks of Yellow-Rumped Warblers, White-Crowned
Sparrows, and Ruby-Crowned Kinglets were everywhere.

Good birding,
