Hi, Tweets

I don't mean to be a pest reminding everyone to look up, but I'm
vulture-challenged this fall. Anyway, since my query about west-side
migrants, I've been receiving several reports of kettles of from
7-50, so they are doing fine over here.

I spent several short periods reading on my deck, in between putting
in a couple cords of wood. During one interval, I checked my
messages, and there was a message from Lyanda, near Lincoln Park, who
was reading on her back porch, looked up, and saw "30 spiraling
turkey vultures." I saw a nuthatch during my reading!

Anyway, this week and part of next is the big push for
southward-bound turkey vultures. Maybe we'll see some 100+ kettles as
in past years.

We are at the very northern limit of turkey vulture populations in
the far west; ours join the 25,000+ that migrant through the Kern
River Valley (I would assume).

Look up!

Cheers, Diann
