Interesting to hear about the Sullivan's (unusual?) praying mantis sighting at Nisqually Sunday. We went for a walk at the Mima Mounds on Sunday morning and saw two praying mantis (and photographed one of them). The only ones I've ever seen in Washington, but I've only been here a few years. Anyone interested in the photos? Surprisingly few birds, but I suspect the wrong time of year.

At our place in Olympia today (off South Bay Road) an apparent adult female Cooper's hawk (based on the large size) on our fence, and the ring-necked pheasant starting to use the feeder daily again, after a long summer pause.
