Tweeters,

I am starting a book discussion group at Seattle Audubon and thought
some of you might like a heads up on this. The purpose of the group is
to read and discuss some of the excellent reference materials used in
Seattle Audubon's Master Birder Program. My job will be to facilitate
well-rounded discussion that involves all members of the group. This is
a discussion group about the books we read, it is not a class. Our
reading pace will be designed to accommodate average daily lives and
promote participation in discussion. The goal is to help prepare
birders interested in being in the Master Birder program, to provide
previous graduates with book review, and to be an enjoyable activity for
other birders who want to read and discuss quality bird books.

Our first discussion date is Sunday, October 8, 6-8 p.m. We will
discuss the first chapter of Part I, "Flight, Form, and Function," in
Sibley's guide to Bird Life and Behavior. Discussions will be the
second Sunday of every month, and we will complete Part I by the end of
this year. In January, we'll start Dennis Paulson's "Shorebirds of the
Pacific Northwest," which I plan to complete by summer. Dennis has
agreed to come to a discussion session to talk about writing this book
while we are reading it.

Hope to see you there.
