Tweets,

Today 8 of us walked Nisqually NWR on a relatively quiet day. Summer birds
are mostly gone and the winter shift hasn't arrived yet.

Highlights included the WHITE-TAILED KITE still lingering around. We saw it
today along the trail to McAllister Creek early on and had good scope looks
from a couple of locations. We also had good looks at a couple of AMERICAN
BITTERN, one flying by and the other frozen along the reeds in the pond behind
the visitor center.

Some of the winter birds are back with several sightings of both
RUBY-CROWNED and GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, as well as both GOLDEN-CROWNED and
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS. We also saw Many lingering SAVANAH SPARROW and several SPOTTER
TOWHEE and DARK-EYED JUNCO. There were lots of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS around.

All told we saw 42 species with nothing new for the year.

Mammals seen included a RACCOON swimming near the freshwater marsh overlook
on the way to the twin barns, several EASTERN GRAY SQUIRRELS, and a HARBOR
SEAL at the Nisqually River overlook.

Until next week when we do the last full loop of the year....
