Sept 30, 2006. There have been four new year birds in Spokane County
bringing the group year list to 234. On Sept 13, 6 STILT SANDPIPERS and 1
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were at Philleo Lake. On Sept 17 a COMMON TERN was
at Eloika Lake. On Sept 25 a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was briefly at a west
Spokane yard. None of these birds were relocated.

Spokane County's first ever GREEN HERON was last seen Sept 21 (found Aug 7).

Other goodies include 16 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE at Turnbull NWR Sept 26 for an
apparent first fall county record. Also at Turnbull Sept 26 were 2 AMERICAN
BITTERN flushed by a big bull elk. A FOX SPARROW (brown head) was at the
mouth of the Little Spokane River Sept 30, as was a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT & a
MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER. A few LINCOLN'S SPARROWS are still being reported.
3 WESTERN GREBES are at the south end of West Medical Lake. An OSPREY was
still there Sept 29. A nice total of 132 PIED-BILLED GREBES and one last
BARN SWALLOW were at Turnbull Sept 25.

A BONAPARTE'S GULL was at Silver Lake Sept 29. At least six GOLDEN-CROWNED
SPARROWS have been reported recently. A late CASSIN'S VIREO was in the
Dishman Hills Natural Area Sept 21.

Good Birding,
