Hi, Tweets

Turkey vultures are back. Another sure - and welcome - sign of
spring. Thanks to all who have sent reports; they are always much
appreciated. Following are sightings from Washington, British
Columbia, and Oregon for March 2007:

02 -- 1 on a deer carcass near the Elwha Bridge
04 -- 1 circling over Elma
05 -- 1 at Bend, Oregon; a conspicuous movement in SW Oregon during
this week; one adult sailing up the Tahuya River Valley
06 -- 2 above the Elwha River mouth
13 -- 1 heading north over Discovery Park; 1 heading east near Pt. Defiance
16 -- 11 just west of Port Angeles; 2 over Fircrest, Pierce County; 2
east of Dupont
18 -- 24 over Jamestown Beach; 2 at Nisqually; 1 soaring near Dupont;
1 in south Nanaimo, B.C.; 1 at Skamania Landing; 1 at Underwood Hill;
7 at the mouth of the Klickitat River being dived on by bald eagles;
1 west of Banks Lake
19 -- 2 over the bluffs above Bowerman Basin
20 -- 1 between Lacey and Elma; 23 headed west from Port Angeles at
1030, 5 at 1054, 1 at 1334; 1 over the Enumclaw Plateau
21 -- 1 south of Brewster
22 -- 3 near the Teanaway Bridge
23 -- 1 over Peone Prairie; 1 near North Bend
25 -- 6 near Centralia; 2 headed north over Eagle Harbor; (?) above
Parksville and Nanaimo, B.C.; 1 over the Enumclaw Plateau; 1 where
I-90 crosses the Yakima River; 1 circling SW of Littlerock; 1 over
Ellensburg; (?) near Cle Elum; several over the Mima Mounds; 7 in
different locations; 2 at Six Prong Road; 2 at Pine Creek crossing
26 -- 7 soaring over the Cowichan River estuary, B.C.
28 -- 3 at the Brady Loop Road complex
28 -- 1 over the Enumclaw Plateau
31 -- 1 between Shine and Discovery Bay; 2 near Kitchen Dick Ponds; 1
east of Roy

More vultures should be coming through in April so don't forget to
look up. We should be pleased to have such a super flyer and abundant
vulture in our midst. In South Africa, most of their vulture species
are threatened or endangered. Not a pleasant thought.

Cheers, Diann
