Subject: [Tweeters] creosote piling removal and purple martins

I would like to know if any one knows if the state agencies are coordinating
with any of the Purple Martin nest box programs and the removal of creosote
pilings. They have not done so with Vashon which has 70-72 pairs a year at
this point using the pilings themselves or boxes or gourds on the pilings.
If the state takes the pilings out, they would wipe out more than a decade's
worth of work to bring them back to Vashon. This seems like it would be a
violation of the federal migratory bird treaty if done without any direct
mitigation.
