I?m on Island County?s Conservation Future Fund Technical Advisory Group.
Recently our team was standing in a field near Deer Lagoon discussing
the possible purchase of a conservation easement on the property. Several
members of the group doubted the property held any value for wildlife. I
said several raptors use the area including Peregrine Falcons. Within 30
seconds of my statement a Peregrine came flying in, making a couple of low
passes before zipping off across Useless Bay. I got some odd looks from the
people- they either thought I had it planned or could conjure falcons at
will!
My wife says that in the olden times I?d have been stoned for a witch (
or made into a Shaman). I still don?t know if we?re getting the property but
falcons are pretty charismatic!
