Dear Tweeters,

Sorry for late posting. I saw an adult EMPEROR GOOSE
at Julia Butler Hansen NWR yesterday (Wednesday,
4-04-07). It was with a flock of Cackling Geese. I
watched it for about five minutes. Then it quietly
walked into some long grass, and that was that. Later,
when a Bald Eagle put the waterfowl up, the Emperor
Goose was not seen in the flying goose flocks. The
location was just west of a long pullout along the
river.

Has this bird been seen there earlier this winter?

Also, later that evening, I pished up a Swamp Sparrow
on the short road that wends back to the west from the
state highway. The bird was with Golden-crowned
Sparrows in a shrubby thicket, just before the road
reaches a round pond.

At least one White-shouldered Kite was kiting about
the refuge most of the day.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
