The robin genus TURDUS might be a conversation starter, but probably not
DOL-approved. Back when I worked for a parrot breeder, I heard about
someone who wanted to get a license plate reading PIONUS to honor the
genus of parrots she raised. Not allowed, since it could be construed
as Pee On Us. She was surprised to be turned down, as alternate
meanings had never crossed her mind. Surely everyone knows about Pionus
parrots!
Hope it?s not too off-color, but that?s my bird license plate story. I
hope SPARROW or FLICKER are available when I go to get a license plate.
SOSP or NOFL would do as well, though the relative obscurity of
four-letter codes reminds me of my favorite non-avian license plate
sighting: PV NRT. That?s a gas law, if you remember high school
chemistry. If you don?t, you might think the truck belonged to Polly
Vanessa and Norman Robert Turner.

Subject: [Tweeters] Bird Name License Plates

I have to replace an existing license plate due to old age and wanted to
use a personalized plate using a bird.
I did a search of a number of birds I was interested in at the
dol.wa.gov website using the seven spaces available. I thought some
other
Tweeters might be interested in what is, or is not, available. It would
be great if more birders used bird license plates.
