When I made a dash out to northwestern Whitman County
for the reported Snow Goose on Easter Sunday
(4/08/07), south of Sprague, I found a lone TRUMPETER
SWAN on the first pond immediately south of MP41 on
Hwy 23 (west side of the road) in Lincoln County.

At Crooked Knee Lake, there was no Snow Goose to be
seen, but there was my season first SWAINSON'S HAWK
soaring over the rugged landscape. Whlle scoping the
lake, a MARSH WREN came up close to chatter at me and
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDs wheeled over the cattails.
CANVASBACKs, RUDDY DUCKs, LESSER SCAUP, and EARED
GREBEs were some of the other notables.

Although there wasn't anything too earth shattering on
Sheep Lake, there was a VESPER SPARROW taking a dust
bath on the track, and a singing SAVANNAH SPARROW in
the shrubs. It seems like new birds are showing up
every day.
