Hi John, MaryFrances Mathis and I did the same route on Saturday. We had
almost all of the same birds as you, although we didn't have a live
Loggerhead Shrike (did see a roadkill that another Seattle birder had
retrieved.) In addition, on the same route, we also had Sage Thrasher,
Brewer's Sparrow, Sage Sparrow, Vesper Sparrow, Rock Wren, Chuckar and
California Quail. Stopping near Cle Elum, we had Evening Grossbeak,
Cassin's Finch, both bluebirds, Mountain Chickadee, and at Elk Heights, two
Black-backed Woodpeckers - a male "guarding" a nest entrance and, across the
burn, a female drilling a nest hole. A great dry-side experience.
