After spending the morning birding Spencer Island in warm sunshine,
my husband and I were treated to views of at least 12 Bonaparte's
Gulls sleeping and preening on a concrete bulkhead along the large
north settling pond. About half of them were in full breeding plumage
with very dark heads and bills. They were among a group of Mew Gulls.

Other highlights for the day were 2 occupied Osprey nests along the
river walk to the island and an active Pileated Woodpecker nesting
hole in a snag on the north end of the island.
