Tweeters,

We stopped off one last time at small public area at the water behind the
Hansville Store about 7pm before heading to the ferry to return home. We
had been searching the area since 4:30pm without success. Scoping the area
Ollie noticed a flying loon headed our way. We both got on the loon and
were totally amazed to see the side showing the lack of straight horizontal
line along the bird's water line. It was the Artic! It dropped into the
water in front of us and began very active feeding. We were able to get
scoped views of the loon but they were quick ones. Once it went down it
stayed quite awhile and then came up quite a distance from where it had gone
down. There was no way to get a photograph. But we were very pleased to
note the blazing white triangular patch at the loon's rear side as it sat in
the water and its lack of chin strap and its flat head. There were no other
birds around to do any size comparison with. The in flight view was a real
treat.

Good birding!

Grace
