Greetings Tweeters!

I have been entertained the last two days by a small
flock of Pine Siskins that have been frequenting the
dandelion patches in my yard. Usually there is a lone
bird diving into the fluff of a ripened flower head,
but this morning four jockeyed for position around one
plume. Makes me glad all the dandelion flowers were
not chopped to mulch when I mowed the grass this week.
(for the 3rd time so far this spring .... geeeesssssh
... limiting much of my sunny-days birdwatching to the
yard!) Several of the mowed-over flowers are popping
back up and going to seed!

I am thinking the Western Wood-Peewees I am hearing
around my place picked up an accent from wintering in
southern Mexico near the Greater Peewee. :-) They
don't sound exactly like the recording on my CDs
(Peterson North American), but a bit like the Greater.
I have been listening to these recordings a lot
recently, along with the recordings of all the other
flycatchers, just trying to catch the nuances. Is
there an online recording of Western Wood-Peewees from
the Puget Sound area? I would like to compare other
local Wood-Peewee calls to the sounds of my singing
pair.

Happy April!
Judy
